Past competitions

The Czech Republic has sent a national team to the FIRST Global Challenge since the very first edition. Here's every season we know about, from Washington, D.C. to Panama City.

Eco Equilibrium

Panama City, Panama · 29 Oct – 1 Nov Ranked 27th

The ninth FIRST Global Challenge was about biodiversity and sustainable ecosystems. Team Czechia, made up of students from the International School of Prague, competed against 192 teams from 191 countries and finished 27th.

  • Wrote children's books about science and technology
  • Demonstrated the robot at community events and presented at TEDx
  • Teamed up with six other teams at Prague Maker Faire
  • Competed at FIRST Slovakia in Bratislava

Feeding the Future

Athens, Greece · 26 – 29 Sep

Teams from 193 countries tackled food waste and sustainable food production. The 2024 team was 14 students from the International School of Prague, captained by Advieek, with Donghwa (driver, programmer), Greta (logistics, builder), Sofie (builder, coder) and Alina (head coder).

Hydrogen Horizons

Singapore · 7 – 10 Oct

191 teams came to Singapore to build robots around hydrogen as a clean energy source. Team Czechia was there, flying the flag with the ISP robotics programme behind it.

2022

Carbon Capture

Geneva, Switzerland · 13 – 16 Oct

The first in-person challenge after the pandemic. 179 teams met in Geneva to build robots around capturing and storing carbon dioxide, and the Czech Republic was on the roster.

2021

Discover & Recover

Online Virtual season

The second pandemic season ran entirely online, with 177 teams from 176 countries. Its main event was the Solutions Challenge: each team picked a pandemic-related problem in its own community and built a STEM project to solve it. The Czech Republic took part.

2020

Connecting Communities

Online Virtual season

COVID-19 moved the fourth FIRST Global Challenge online. Teams from 174 countries, including the Czech Republic, stayed connected through a season of technical and soft-skills challenges.

Ocean Opportunities

Dubai, UAE · 24 – 27 Oct

191 teams from 190 countries met at Dubai Festival City Arena to build robots that clean up ocean pollution. Team Czech Republic competed in Dubai.

2018

Energy Impact

Mexico City, Mexico · 16 – 18 Aug

The first year the International School of Prague represented the country. Five students made up the team: Jesper and Talwasa (builders), Tom (programmer), Petr (programmer and builder) and Moira (logistics and builder), mentored by two ISP physics and computer science teachers.

The challenge was sustainable energy, with 189 teams from 183 countries.

2017

H2O Flow

Washington, D.C., USA · 16 – 18 Jul The very first FGC

At the first ever FIRST Global Challenge, 163 teams from 157 countries built robots about access to clean water. The Czech Republic was represented by MaVyT ("small but efficient team"), a trio from Pardubice: Jakub on design, building and sensors, Tomáš on programming and team leadership, and Ondra on Arduino and logic.

Before Washington, they had won medals at RoboRAVE and Robotic Day in Prague.
